Hemet, Calif. — On Friday, December 8, 2023, at approximately 8:14 am, the Hemet Police Department received a report of a man allegedly violating a restraining order in the 800 block of Madden Street in Hemet. Officers arrived and learned that 35-year-old Anthony Mainez had come to the home of his ex-girlfriend and the mother of their four children. The woman had previously obtained a domestic violence restraining order against Mainez requiring him to stay at least 100 yards away from her, their children, and their home. Hemet Police Officers were familiar with Mainez, having investigated similar violations in recent weeks.
When officers arrived, Mainez was found alone inside the home. Officers negotiated with Mainez and convinced him to come outside. After a brief conversation, Mainez attempted to retreat into the house when officers approached to arrest him for violating the court order. When officers began to place Mainez into handcuffs, he suddenly and without provocation punched one officer on the chin. Officers quickly took Mainez into custody following his violent assault.
The officer whom Mainez punched received minor injuries, and one other officer involved in the arrest suffered a broken hand. Mainez is charged with a myriad of crimes, including a violation of a court order, felonious battery on a police officer, and causing great bodily injury to a police officer while resisting arrest. Mainez is currently held in a Riverside County jail with bail set at $35,000.
