Hemet, California – On Friday, April 25, 2025, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team conducted a targeted “Blitz” operation, focusing on Petco and Smart & Final stores within the city. This proactive initiative aimed to address and deter organized retail theft activities affecting local businesses.
During the undercover operation, two adult suspects were apprehended and arrested on theft-related charges. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of our officers and retail partners, the stolen merchandise was successfully recovered and returned to the respective stores.
The success of this operation underscores the vital partnership between the Hemet Police Department and our local business community. Such collaborations are essential in our ongoing efforts to combat organized retail theft and ensure a safe shopping environment for all residents.
The ORT Team’s initiatives are supported by a grant awarded through the State of California’s Organized Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program, administered by the Board of State and Community Corrections. This funding enables the Hemet Police Department to conduct similar operations monthly over the next several years, reinforcing our commitment to preventing organized retail theft in our community.
Adolfo Sanchez, Store Manager at Smart & Final, expressed his appreciation for the department’s efforts:
“I just wanted to personally thank you and all the officers for your support during the Blitz, it was extremely beneficial for our store. Your presence and partnership made a significant difference, not just in deterring theft, but also in reinforcing a safer environment for our employees and customers. The team and I are truly grateful for the dedication and collaboration you continue to provide. We look forward to working together again in the future and continuing to build on this great momentum. Thank you once again for your outstanding support!”
