Hemet, Calif. – On Friday, July 14th, 2023, at approximately 9:17 pm, a traffic collision occurred on Florida Avenue near Gilmore Street in the City of Hemet. As a result of the crash, three children in their teens were injured, as well as an on-duty Hemet Police officer. The injuries range from minor to moderate, and all four injured parties were treated at an area hospital.
Officers arrived in the area and located the male subject in the 200 block of East Florida Avenue where an officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was subsequently pronounced deceased on the scene.
Following these commands coming from the UAV, the man dropped the knife and willingly surrendered. Officers safely detained him without the use of force and transported him to a local facility for treatment.
