Hemet, CA – On Sunday, March 9th, 2025 at 1:55 AM, Officers from the Hemet Police Department responded to the 1300 block of El Nita Lane for a subject smashing out vehicle windows.  Officers arrived and contacted the suspect who ran to his vehicle and fled the location, a pursuit was then initiated by officers. During the pursuit, spike strips were deployed, however the suspect drove into the opposite lanes of traffic and struck an HPD officer who was standing by his patrol car.  The suspect vehicle continued driving and collided in the 500 block of N. San Jacinto Street where he was taken into custody. The officer was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Hemet, California – On Friday, February 21, 2025, at about 10:25 pm, Hemet Police Officers responded to the 100 block of North Hamilton Avenue, Hemet in regards to a stabbing that had just occurred.  The reporting party informed dispatch his friend was stabbed. 

When Officers arrived on scene they located a 15-year-old male with a stab wound.  Officers provided lifesaving measures until relieved by medical personnel who transported the victim to a local trauma center for further medical treatment. 

Despite lifesaving efforts, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The victim’s name is not being released at this time.  The Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau is handling the investigation.

Proposition 36 is in effect

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, California voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 36, known as “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act.” Proposition 36 took effect on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

Proposition 36 modifies existing laws and adds substantive charges and enhancements to areas of the California Penal Code and Health and Safety Code regarding theft, property damage, and drug-related crimes.

Celebrate the Holiday Season Responsibly

The holiday season can be dangerous for people on the roads. In December 2022 alone, 1,062 people were killed in the U.S. in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Hemet Police Department wants to remind the public of the dangers of driving impaired and to celebrate the holiday season responsibly by not driving under the influence.

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, at approximately 07:57 am, Hemet Police Officers responded to a traffic collision west of the intersection of Kirby Street and Acacia Avenue.

Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and located the two vehicles involved; a smaller passenger vehicle and a City of Hemet Public Works utility truck. An adult male, later discovered to be a City of Hemet employee for the Public Works Department was discovered unresponsive at the scene. Officers immediately began providing first aid, but unfortunately the male succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Hemet, Calif. – On Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, at approximately 5:30am, Hemet Police Communications Center received multiple 911calls regarding a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle in the 3800 block of West Devonshire Avenue.  When officers arrived on scene they located an unresponsive male down in the roadway.  Officers provided life saving measures until relieved by Emergency Medical Personnel who transported the victim to a local hospital.  Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The victim’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of his family.

HEMET POLICE RECEIVES GRANT TO INCREASE ROAD SAFETY!

The Hemet Police Department announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support its ongoing enforcement and education programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on our roads. The grant program runs through September 2025.

Hemet, Calif. – On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at approximately 9:47 p.m., the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received several calls reporting multiple subjects shooting at each other in the 100 block of East Stetson Avenue.  Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.  The Hemet/San Jacinto Gang Task Force (GTF) has assumed the investigation.

MULTIPLE ARRESTS MADE DURING AB 109 COMPLIANCE SWEEP

Hemet, Calif. — On October 10, 2024, the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force (Region 3) and Central P.A.C.T. (Post-release Accountability & Compliance Team) executed a large- scale joint operation in the cities of Hemet, San Jacinto and surrounding areas.  The operation focused on compliance checks and warrant services on those on parole, probation, mandatory supervision, and post-release community supervision (PRCS).

FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

On February 1, 2026, at approximately 6:49 p.m., a Hemet Police officer was on patrol when he observed a collision that had just occurred at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Hamilton Avenue. The officer immediately stopped and discovered that a vehicle and a bicyclist were both involved in the collision. The bicyclist was found in the roadway suffering from major injuries. The Officer initiated life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. Despite those efforts, the bicyclist later succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

FATAL SHOOTING INVESTIGATION – Update

Hemet, Calif. — On Monday, October 13, 2025, at approximately 9:46 a.m., the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 3100 block of West Florida Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located a deceased adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. The identity of the deceased will not be disclosed at this time, pending official family notification.
This is an active homicide investigation handled by the Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau.
