***STABBING HOMICIDE UPDATE***

On September 18, 2023, at approximately 12:35 am, Officers responded to the 1000 block of South Gilbert Street for reports of a disturbance outside the apartment complex. Additional callers stated the victim was either stabbed or shot and heard someone yelling for help.

When Officers arrived on scene they located an adult female victim suffering from several stab wounds. Officers provided lifesaving measures until relieved by Hemet Fire Personnel who transported the victim to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. This senseless crime left behind small children without their mother and a husband without a wife.

Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation.  During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified Autumn Goodwin as the suspect responsible for the homicide.

On September 22, 2023, a search warrant was executed in the 600 block of Vista Del Monte, City of Hemet.  During the warrant service, Investigators located and apprehended suspect Autumn Goodwin, a Hemet resident.  Goodwin was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for homicide and held on a 1 million dollars bail.

This complex investigation involved detectives and patrol officers from the Hemet Police Department in cooperation with the Hemet / San Jacinto Gang Task Force, ROCS, Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, and the Riverside County Gang Impact Team.  Thank you to the citizens of Hemet who came forward and provided valuable information on this case. This outcome would not have been possible without the dedication, teamwork and the countless hours invested by everyone involved.

On January 22, 2024, this case went to jury trial and Goodwin was found guilty of murder.  On March 1, 2024, Goodwin was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison for her involvement.
