Hemet, Calif. — On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at approximately 12:19 am, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a call reference gunshots heard in the 300 block of East Johnston Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. The Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau has assumed the investigation.

Hemet, Calif. — On October 4, 2023, Operation “10-4”, a large-scale joint operation between the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force (Region 3) and Central P.A.C.T. (Post-release Accountability & Compliance Team) conducted an operation that focused on compliance checks and warrant services on those individuals on Parole, Probation, Mandatory Supervision, and Post Release Community Supervision (P.R.C.S.). The locations were in the City of Hemet, City of San Jacinto and surrounding areas.
Approximately 150 law enforcement personnel participated in this operation, involving the following teams from the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force (Region 1- Coachella Valley, Region 2-Banning/Beaumont Region 3- Hemet/San Jacinto, Region 4- Murrieta/Temecula, Region 6- Lake Elsinore/Perris and Region 7- Corona/Norco), Central P.A.C.T, East P.A.C.T, San Jacinto Special Enforcement Team, Beaumont Crime Suppression Unit, Lake Matthews Special Enforcement Team, Hemet PD R.O.C.S. Team, Murrieta PD Special Enforcement Team and Community Policing Team, Menifee Special Enforcement Team and POP team, Riverside County Probation, RAID (Riverside Auto-Theft Interdiction Detail), California State Parole, and Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept.- Cois Byrd Detention Center Team participated in the operation.

Arrest Made in Stabbing Homicide Investigation

Hemet, Calif. — On Monday, September 18, 2023, at approximately 12:35 am, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received several calls reference a disturbance in the 1000 block of South Gilbert Street. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult victim suffering from several stab wounds. Officers began providing lifesaving measures prior to the victim being transported to a local hospital. The victim ultimately succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The victim’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of their family. Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau assumed the investigation.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured

Hemet, California – On Wednesday in the early morning hours of September 20th, 2023 at about 3:42 AM, officers from The Hemet Police Department responded to a possible traffic collision within the 600 block of N. State Street in the City of Hemet.  Officers on the scene discovered a collision had occurred involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers Warn Others of Approaching Tropical Storm

Hemet, Calif. – In preparation for Hurricane Hilary, the Hemet Police Department has sent officers to washes and drainage areas throughout the city where transient encampments may be found. The officers are there to warn anyone staying in locations designed for flood control to be aware of the approaching tropical storm expected to reach Hemet sometime over the weekend. All homeless persons in these locations will be offered assistance and told to vacate the area to prevent being caught in a flash flood.

Use of Force Charges Filed Against Hemet Police Officer

Hemet, Calif. — On July 23, 2023, the Hemet Police Department became aware of a use of force involving one of its Officers, which left one person with significant injuries. During this incident, Police Officer Jacob Hobson approached a group behind a gas station on the 1700 block of West Florida Avenue and determined a female in the group had an outstanding felony warrant. The officer initiated an arrest. However, the female initially resisted his efforts to place her in handcuffs. A subsequent use of force occurred, and the woman was seriously injured while being taken into custody.

Pedestrian Safety Operations

During August and September, the Hemet Police Department’s Traffic Bureau has organized several enforcement operations focusing on pedestrian safety. Motor Officers will be paying particular attention to vehicle code violations related to pedestrian safety. Additionally, they will focus on high pedestrian traffic areas such as schools and shopping plazas.

Hemet PD Forms Partnership to Combat Mail Theft

The City of Hemet is proud to announce a new partnership between the Hemet Police Department and the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) through a Memorandum of Understanding that establishes the Inland Empire Financial Crimes Task Force.

This joint effort strengthens the City’s ability to combat financial fraud, identity theft, mail theft, counterfeit securities, and related crimes, offenses that impact residents, businesses, and the integrity of local commerce.

5 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN ORT BLITZ OPERATION

On Friday, October 24, 2025, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team conducted a “Blitz” operation at the Village West Shopping Center. The purpose of this operation was to address and deter organized retail theft activities that continue to affect local businesses.

Between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., undercover officers worked in close partnership with store staff and security personnel to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in theft-related activities. Their efforts resulted in five arrests over the course of the operation. Four felony cases and one misdemeanor case were filed, a parole hold was issued, one vehicle was towed, and officers recovered $624 in stolen merchandise.
