On Friday, October 24, 2025, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team conducted a “Blitz” operation at the Village West Shopping Center. The purpose of this operation was to address and deter organized retail theft activities that continue to affect local businesses.

Between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., undercover officers worked in close partnership with store staff and security personnel to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in theft-related activities. Their efforts resulted in five arrests over the course of the operation. Four felony cases and one misdemeanor case were filed, a parole hold was issued, one vehicle was towed, and officers recovered $624 in stolen merchandise.

Organized retail theft is far more than casual shoplifting. These crimes are often carried out by individuals working together in a coordinated manner, stealing large amounts of merchandise with the intent to resell it. The profits from these thefts are sometimes funneled into larger criminal enterprises. Beyond the economic harm, retail theft can escalate into dangerous confrontations that place store employees, shoppers, and the community at risk.

The Hemet Police Department remains committed to proactive enforcement strategies and community education. These efforts are made possible through strong partnerships with retailers and residents who remain vigilant and willing to report suspicious activity. As organized retail theft continues to affect communities across California, Hemet stands firm in its resolve to hold offenders accountable while working to maintain a safe and secure shopping environment for all.
