Hemet, California – On Saturday, January 13th, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM officers from the Hemet Police Department responded to a traffic collision on San Jacinto Street near the intersection of El Nita Lane, in the City of Hemet. Upon arrival, first responders located a bicyclist trapped under a vehicle. Life-saving measures were attempted but tragically, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. The adult male’s identity is being withheld pending notification to his family. Hemet Police Traffic Investigators responded and assumed the investigation.
On Friday, November 17th, 2023, at approximately 4:58 AM, Hemet Police Officers responded to a major injury traffic collision within the 900 block of N. Warren Road.
On October 25, 2023, Hemet Police Officers responded to a major injury traffic collision with one fatality. The investigation was turned over to CHP.
Hemet, California – On Wednesday in the early morning hours of September 20th, 2023 at about 3:42 AM, officers from The Hemet Police Department responded to a possible traffic collision within the 600 block of N. State Street in the City of Hemet. Officers on the scene discovered a collision had occurred involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
Hemet, Calif. – On Friday, July 14th, 2023, at approximately 9:17 pm, a traffic collision occurred on Florida Avenue near Gilmore Street in the City of Hemet. As a result of the crash, three children in their teens were injured, as well as an on-duty Hemet Police officer. The injuries range from minor to moderate, and all four injured parties were treated at an area hospital.
On Saturday, July 1st, 2023, at approximately 12:56 AM, officers from the Hemet Police Department responded to a traffic collision on Florida Avenue near Harvard Street in the City of Hemet. Hemet Police Officers, Hemet Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR) arrived on scene and discovered a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Public safety personnel immediately attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.
Hemet, Calif. — On Monday, February 6, 2023, at about 3:41 pm, the Hemet Police Dispatch Center began receiving calls about a traffic collision that had just occurred in the intersection of Cawston Ave. and Devonshire Ave. in the City of Hemet. The initial callers reported that two vehicles were involved and that at least two people were unconscious. Hemet Police and Fire Department units immediately responded to the location.
On Friday, January 27, 2023, at approximately 9:36 pm, Hemet Police Officers responded to a major injury traffic collision near the intersection of Florida Avenue and Acacia Avenue. Officers arrived and located a gray Toyota Corolla off the south roadway edge of Florida Avenue and gray Toyota Tacoma within the eastbound lanes of Florida Avenue.
The Hemet Police Department will increase patrols throughout the community and provide other traffic safety programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on roads with the newly awarded OTS Grant.
The Hemet Police Department is encouraging everyone to be alert to keep bicyclists safe. With the arrival of warmer weather, more people are biking for commuting, exercise, or recreation, making it essential for all people to look out for one another and save lives.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 1,105 people killed while riding a bike in 2022, and an estimated 46,195 bicyclists were injured.
“Bicycling is a great means of transportation and recreation, and everyone deserves to ride to their destination safely,” Sergeant Matt Chavez said. “Whether you are behind the wheel or on two wheels, we all share the responsibility to move safely on our roads .”
On Friday, April 25, 2025, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team conducted a targeted “Blitz” operation, focusing on Petco and Smart & Final stores within the city. This proactive initiative aimed to address and deter organized retail theft activities affecting local businesses.
