Lieutenant Michael Mouat is the Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau Commander. He currently supervises:
- The Investigations Bureau
- Special Operations Unit (SOU)
- The Gang Task Force
- Property & Evidence
- Crime Scene Investigation Team
Lieutenant Mouat began his law enforcement career when he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps as a Military Police Officer in 1995. While serving 9 years in the Marine Corps, Michael Mouat was a Canine Handler and a Special Reaction Team (SWAT) member.
In 1999, Michael Mouat was hired as a Deputy Sheriff by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. While at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Michael Mouat was assigned to the Men’s Central Jail and spent 2 years on active-duty service in the Marine Corps.
Michael Mouat transferred to the Hemet Police Department in 2004, and has held the following assignments:
- Patrol
- Field Training Officer (FTO)
- Training Review Board member
- Special Operations Unit (SWAT) – 14 years
- Operator, Point, Assistant Team Leader, and Team Leader
- Ranger Master – 14 Years
- Firearms Instructor, Active Shooter Response Instructor, Armorer, Less Lethal Instructor, and Force Options Simulator Instructor
- 2007 – Assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit as a Detective
- 2010 – Assigned to the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, Region 3, as a Detective
- 2011 – Promoted to Corporal and assigned to Patrol as a Field Supervisor
- 2014 – Promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Patrol as a Watch Commander
- SWAT Team Leader
- Range Master Supervisor
- 2017 – Assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit as a Supervisor
- 2019 – Assigned to the Office of Professional Standards / Internal Affairs as a Supervisor
- 2020 – Assigned to the Community Services Bureau as a Supervisor

- 2022 – Promoted to Lieutenant
- Graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, Class #403
