Derek Maddox

Lieutenant Maddox is third generation from Hemet and a Hemet High School Graduate. He began his law enforcement career as a volunteer Explorer for the Hemet Police Department in 1989 until 1994. In 1991 Lieutenant Maddox was hired as a Police Cadet for the Hemet Police Department and held the position until 1992. After pursuing another career in the private sector, Derek Maddox was hired by the City of Hemet in 2004 as a Police Officer, and has held the following assignments:

• Field Training Officer (FTO)
• Recruiting Team
• Traffic Collision Investigation Team
• Peer Support Team, and Team Leader
• K-9 Unit Patrol Dog Handler
• Department Terrorism Liaison Officer
• K-9 Unit Coordinator
• Established the Chaplain Team and served as Team Coordinator
• Crisis Negotiation Team, Assistant Team Leader
• Established and Facilitated the Departments first Citizens Academy
• K-9 Unit Detection Dog Handler
• 2014 – Promoted to Corporal and assigned to Patrol as a Field Supervisor
• 2017 – Promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Patrol as a Watch Commander
• 2018 – Assigned to Community Services Bureau as a Sergeant
• 2020 – Assigned to the Post Release Accountability and Compliance Team Taskforce as a Supervisor
• 2024 – Promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Community Services Division

• Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration (In-progress) from California Coast University
• Graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, Class #495
• California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Supervisory Certificates
