In its efforts to prevent distracted driving and save lives on our roads, the Hemet Police Department is reminding all drivers to stay focused, keep their eyes forward, and keep their hands on the wheel. Whether checking a phone, eating, or adjusting the radio, distractions can have devastating consequences.
The holiday season can be dangerous for people on the roads. In December 2022 alone, 1,062 people were killed in the U.S. in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Hemet Police Department wants to remind the public of the dangers of driving impaired and to celebrate the holiday season responsibly by not driving under the influence.
The Hemet Police Department announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support its ongoing enforcement and education programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on our roads. The grant program runs through September 2025.
On September 19th, 2024, the Hemet Police Department Traffic Bureau conducted a DUI Checkpoint in the City of Hemet. The purpose of this checkpoint was to identify impaired drivers, educate the public, and remind everyone to drive safely.
On Sunday, 09/08/2024 , at approximately 9:02 PM, Hemet Police Officers responded to an unknown injury traffic collision on Mountain Ave. just west of Soboba St. in the City of Hemet. Officers arrived on the scene and located a silver Kia Forte and a red Hyundai Ioniq with major collision damage within both lanes of traffic.
As the end of summer approaches and families prepare for Labor Day celebrations, The Hemet Police Department reminds everyone to prioritize safety on the roads. Drivers are encouraged to make responsible choices behind the wheel by never driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. “We want everyone to enjoy their end of Summer travels and Labor Day festivities, but it’s imperative to do so responsibly,” Sergeant Matt Chavez of The Hemet Police Department said. “Driving under the influence not only puts your life at risk but also endangers everyone else on the road. Our goal is to reduce preventable crashes and save lives.”
On April 18th, 2024, 2 drivers were arrested for DUI and 12 citations were issued at a DUI checkpoint. 12 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 649 vehicles were contacted in total.
The Hemet Police Department will hold a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Wednesday, April 18th, 2024, from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am at an undisclosed location within the City of Hemet.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and a time to put safety in the driver’s seat. The Hemet Police Department will be actively looking for drivers throughout the month who are in violation of the state’s hands-free cell phone law.
With the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations fast approaching, the Hemet Police Department will be on alert for suspected impaired drivers and reminds the community to celebrate responsibly by designating a sober driver – your lucky charm for a safe and enjoyable celebration
On April 23, 2025, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Hemet Police officers responded to the 1300 block of Division Court regarding a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near community mailboxes.
Upon arrival, officers located a tan/gold 1993 Jeep Cherokee parked directly adjacent to the mailboxes. The vehicle was occupied by an adult male, later identified as 42-year-old Naythan Story, who appeared to be unconscious in the driver’s seat while the vehicle was running.
