Hemet, Calif. – On September 19th, 2024, the Hemet Police Department Traffic Bureau conducted a DUI Checkpoint in the City of Hemet. The purpose of this checkpoint was to identify impaired drivers, educate the public, and remind everyone to drive safely. During this operation, over 400 drivers passed through the checkpoint with 33 of them requiring additional assistance and evaluation. After completing this operation, 3 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, 3 were arrested for outstanding warrants, and 7 drivers were issued citations for traffic related offenses.
The DUI checkpoint was held within the 2200 block of W. Florida Avenue from 8:00 PM until approximately 2:00 AM.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roadways.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
