Last night, the Hemet City Council proclaimed Monday, May 15, 2023, Peace Officers Memorial Day in honor of those peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives in the performance of duty. The City of Hemet will fly their flags at half-staff at all city buildings.

Since the first recorded death in 1791, more than 20,000 law enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and died or been killed in the line of duty. In 1962, Congress and President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls as National Police Week.

This evening, the Hemet Unified School District alerted us of social media threats originating from West Valley High School.

School will continue as planned. However, we want to assure the community that campus safety remains one of our top priorities. Out of an abundance of caution, we will have additional officers on site.

We understand that incidents like these can be unsettling. However, we want to assure families that we are taking all necessary precautions to keep students and Hemet Unified School District staff safe.
If you haven't noticed already, the city's south end is experiencing a power outage⚡️

Southern California Edison is working diligently to get things back to normal, but in the meantime, please use caution when driving. There are traffic signal outages along Stetson and South State Street. If you come up to an inoperative traffic signal, treat it as if you were at a STOP SIGN 🛑

Drive safely, Hemet!
