Hemet, Calif. — On Saturday, April 1, 2023, at approximately 10:56 pm, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a call of gunshots heard in the 1800 block of W. Devonshire Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to their injuries. The victim’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of their family.

The Hemet Police Department’s investigation has led to the arrest of 56-year-old Ronnie Harper of Hemet on Thursday, April 5, for Homicide.

Passenger Killed in Traffic Collision

Hemet, Calif. — On Monday, February 6, 2023, at about 3:41 pm, the Hemet Police Dispatch Center began receiving calls about a traffic collision that had just occurred in the intersection of Cawston Ave. and Devonshire Ave. in the City of Hemet. The initial callers reported that two vehicles were involved and that at least two people were unconscious. Hemet Police and Fire Department units immediately responded to the location.

Hemet Police Department Aware of Potential School Walkout

The Hemet Police Department is aware of flyers currently circulating on social media and within the community that reference a potential student walkout at some Hemet-area schools on Friday, February 6, 2026.

The flyers appear to reference a form of First Amendment–protected expression and protest. The Hemet Police Department respects the constitutional rights of individuals to engage in lawful expression, while recognizing California truancy policies, as well as school district attendance and safety policies regarding campus operations.

FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

On February 1, 2026, at approximately 6:49 p.m., a Hemet Police officer was on patrol when he observed a collision that had just occurred at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Hamilton Avenue. The officer immediately stopped and discovered that a vehicle and a bicyclist were both involved in the collision. The bicyclist was found in the roadway suffering from major injuries. The Officer initiated life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. Despite those efforts, the bicyclist later succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
