Halloween Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation
Hemet, Ca. – The Hemet Police Department will conduct a Halloween pedestrian safety enforcement operation intended to educate drivers and pedestrians on traffic laws meant to keep them safe during the Halloween festivities that many take part in this time of year.
Hemet Public Safety Responds to Firework-Related Incidents during Fourth of July
The Hemet Police Department and Hemet Fire/Department of Life Safety responded to a significant number of firework-related incidents during the Fourth of July celebrations. From 6:00 pm to 2:00 am, the dedicated personnel responded to 141 firework-related calls for service which came in through the Hemet Public Safety Communication Center with another 127 calls received through alternative reporting methods.
Check Twice for Motorcycles: May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
During May’s Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, The Hemet Police Department reminds drivers to always look twice for motorcycles. Safe riding and driving practices, and a shared responsibility from all road users, will help everyone get to their destination safely.
Share the Road and Look Out for One Another During Bicycle Safety Month
May is National Bicycle Safety Month, and the Hemet Police Department is encouraging more people to get active and safely take bike rides.
“Bicycling is a great means of transportation and recreation, and everyone deserves to ride to their destination safely,” Traffic Sergeant Gabriel Gomez said. “Let’s look out for one another and share the road, share the responsibility.”
Hemet Police Department Launches Drone as a First Responder Program
The Hemet Police Department launched a new Drone as a First Responder (DFR) Program to enhance its law enforcement capabilities. The DFR program will use small, remotely operated Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), also commonly referred to as drones, to provide law enforcement with critical information as they respond to calls for service and emergencies.
Hemet Police to Conduct DUI Safety Checkpoint
The Hemet Police Department will hold a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Wednesday, May 4th, 2023, from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am at an undisclosed location within the City of Hemet.
Arrest In Homicide Investigation
Hemet, Calif. — On Saturday, April 1, 2023, at approximately 10:56 pm, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a call of gunshots heard in the 1800 block of W. Devonshire Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to their injuries. The victim’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of their family.
The Hemet Police Department’s investigation has led to the arrest of 56-year-old Ronnie Harper of Hemet on Thursday, April 5, for Homicide.

Hemet, Calif. – April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Hemet Police Department will be actively looking for drivers throughout the month who are in violation of the state’s hands-free cell phone law.
Think twice before you light it
As Independence Day approaches, the Hemet Police Department is reminding the community that all fireworks are illegal in the City of Hemet, under Ordinance No. 1850. This includes possession, sale, use, or distribution of any fireworks, safe and sane or otherwise.
Every year, our Communications Center is flooded with hundreds of complaints related to illegal fireworks, ranging from excessive noise and property damage to frightened pets and veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress. Fireworks not only disrupt neighborhoods but also pose serious risks of fire, injury, and death.
HEMET POLICE TO CONDUCT DUI SAFETY CHECKPOINT
The Hemet Police Department will hold a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, July 11th, 2025, from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am at an undisclosed location within the City of Hemet.
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on DUI crashes and arrests data collection and statistical information. The primary purpose of checkpoints is to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. During the checkpoint, Officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The safety of our community is and always will be our mission. Driving under the influence is dangerous and puts a further strain on critical resources.
