Hemet, Calif. — On Saturday, April 1, 2023, at approximately 10:56 pm, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a call of gunshots heard in the 1800 block of W. Devonshire Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to their injuries. The victim’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of their family.

The Hemet Police Department’s investigation has led to the arrest of 56-year-old Ronnie Harper of Hemet on Thursday, April 5, for Homicide.

Hemet, Calif. – On Friday, March 31st, 2023, at approximately 8:47 pm, Officers from the Hemet Police Department responded to the 400 block of north Palm Avenue in the City of Hemet regarding a physical altercation between two people. As the officers arrived, a 46-year-old male involved in the dispute fled in a dark-colored SUV. Officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit of the male, which ended near the intersection of California Avenue and Devonshire Avenue, where an officer-involved shooting occurred.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 10:09 am, Hemet Police Department Officers were conducting a follow-up investigation in the 800 block of South Harvard Street in the city of Hemet regarding a recent theft.

While searching the backyard of the South Harvard Street residence, officers encountered an armed male in an adjacent backyard.

Hemet, Calif. — On Monday, February 6, 2023, at about 3:41 pm, the Hemet Police Dispatch Center began receiving calls about a traffic collision that had just occurred in the intersection of Cawston Ave. and Devonshire Ave. in the City of Hemet. The initial callers reported that two vehicles were involved and that at least two people were unconscious. Hemet Police and Fire Department units immediately responded to the location.

Hemet, Calif. – Monterey Park shooting suspect Huu Can Tran had a residence in the 5000 block of W. Florida Avenue in Hemet. The lead agency in this investigation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, executed a search warrant on his residence.

A Hemet Police Department Officer was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday, November 20, 2022.Independent investigators from the Riverside County Force Investigation Division, as well as those from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and the Hemet Police Department, responded to start their investigations. These investigations are just beginning, and the scene is still active as of this release.

Hemet PD Forms Partnership to Combat Mail Theft

The City of Hemet is proud to announce a new partnership between the Hemet Police Department and the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) through a Memorandum of Understanding that establishes the Inland Empire Financial Crimes Task Force.

This joint effort strengthens the City’s ability to combat financial fraud, identity theft, mail theft, counterfeit securities, and related crimes, offenses that impact residents, businesses, and the integrity of local commerce.

5 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN ORT BLITZ OPERATION

On Friday, October 24, 2025, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team conducted a “Blitz” operation at the Village West Shopping Center. The purpose of this operation was to address and deter organized retail theft activities that continue to affect local businesses.

Between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., undercover officers worked in close partnership with store staff and security personnel to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in theft-related activities. Their efforts resulted in five arrests over the course of the operation. Four felony cases and one misdemeanor case were filed, a parole hold was issued, one vehicle was towed, and officers recovered $624 in stolen merchandise.
