Hemet, Calif. – On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at approximately 3:21 p.m., the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a call reference two subjects shot in the 900 block of West Florida Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a hospital and are currently listed in critical condition. The Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau has assumed the investigation.
Update – Hemet Police Investigators canvassed the scene of the crime and collected items of evidentiary value. Statements were obtained from multiple people commuting on Florida Avenue who witnessed the shooting. With the public’s help, investigators were able to quickly identify the suspect as 19-year old Angel Reyes from Pomona, CA. A thorough search of the area was conducted after the shooting but Reyes was not located. An arrest warrant was immediately obtained for Reyes’ arrest.
On 9/3/2024, Reyes was located and detained in San Ysidro, CA. Reyes was transported to Hemet PD and then to Riverside County Jail and is being held on $1,000,000 bail. HPD officers and investigators worked relentlessly to locate Reyes since the shooting occurred. Their dedication, along with the public’s assistance, resulted in the quick identification and arrest of Reyes.
