On Monday, September 23rd, 2024, at approximately 7:28 pm, Hemet Police Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the 3000 block of W. Florida Avenue. Hemet Police Officers arrived on scene within minutes and located a deceased female in the roadway. The driver involved in this collision also remained on scene and was cooperative with the Officers.
The Hemet Police Department’s Traffic Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Florida Avenue approaching Kirby Street. The female pedestrian entered the roadway for unknown reasons and the collision occurred. Impaired or reckless driving is not suspected at this time. The identity of the deceased pedestrian is being withheld pending family notification. Eastbound Florida Avenue was closed from Sanderson to Kirby Street from approximately 8:00pm to 11:30 pm.
