Hemet, Calif. – On Saturday, July 1st, 2023, at approximately 12:56 AM, officers from the Hemet Police Department responded to a traffic collision on Florida Avenue near Harvard Street in the City of Hemet. Hemet Police Officers, Hemet Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR) arrived on scene and discovered a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Public safety personnel immediately attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries. The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification to his family.
The investigation revealed the pedestrian was running from the northeast corner of Harvard Street, southbound onto Florida Avenue, and into the motorist’s path traveling eastbound on Florida Avenue. The involved driver and his vehicle remained on scene until authorities arrived. The driver cooperated with investigators; DUI is not suspected in this incident. A follow-up investigation was conducted, which included canvasing the area for surveillance recording devices.
