Hemet, California – In the early hours of Thursday, July 4, 2024, at about 1:40 am, Hemet Police Officers responded to one of our local bars in the downtown district in Hemet. The reporting party informed dispatch that an intoxicated male subject walked out of the bar with a gun in his pants. Officers arrived in the area and located the male subject in the 200 block of East Florida Avenue where an officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was subsequently pronounced deceased on the scene.
As in the case of every officer-involved shooting in the city of Hemet, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigation Detail, aided by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, and the California Department of Justice will conduct this investigation. The identity of the suspect will not be released pending next of kin notification. The names of the officers involved are not being released at this time.
