Hemet, California – On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Hemet Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Team carried out a targeted operation to combat retail theft at Bath & Body Works and WSS Shoes in the City of Hemet.

This undercover operation led to the arrest of five adults on multiple theft-related charges. Thanks to the swift action of officers and retail partners, the stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the stores.

The continued success of these efforts is a direct result of the strong partnership between the Hemet Police Department and local businesses.

The ORT Team is funded through a State of California grant awarded by the Board of State and Community Corrections. With this support, the Hemet Police Department will conduct similar operations monthly for the next several years to deter and prevent organized retail theft in the community.

Chief of Police Michael Arellano said, “The dedicated officers of the Hemet Police Department are fully committed to protecting our local businesses and maintaining a safe shopping experience for our community. Our department actively works to prevent retail theft through strategic enforcement, strong partnerships with retailers, and the use of innovative technology. We recognize the serious effects theft has on both businesses and residents, and we remain steadfast in our mission to deter and address these crimes. By working together, we can foster a safer and more secure environment for all.”
