Hemet, Calif. — On Wednesday, February 22, at approximately 6:39 pm, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a call regarding a large fight in the area of the 500 block of North Gilbert Street. Officers arrived on the scene and located an adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 10:09 am, Hemet Police Department Officers were conducting a follow-up investigation in the 800 block of South Harvard Street in the city of Hemet regarding a recent theft.

While searching the backyard of the South Harvard Street residence, officers encountered an armed male in an adjacent backyard.

Passenger Killed in Traffic Collision

Hemet, Calif. — On Monday, February 6, 2023, at about 3:41 pm, the Hemet Police Dispatch Center began receiving calls about a traffic collision that had just occurred in the intersection of Cawston Ave. and Devonshire Ave. in the City of Hemet. The initial callers reported that two vehicles were involved and that at least two people were unconscious. Hemet Police and Fire Department units immediately responded to the location.

 Motorist Dies in Fatal Traffic Collision 

On Friday, January 27, 2023, at approximately 9:36 pm, Hemet Police Officers responded to a major injury traffic collision near the intersection of Florida Avenue and Acacia Avenue. Officers arrived and located a gray Toyota Corolla off the south roadway edge of Florida Avenue and gray Toyota Tacoma within the eastbound lanes of Florida Avenue.

Hemet, Calif. – Monterey Park shooting suspect Huu Can Tran had a residence in the 5000 block of W. Florida Avenue in Hemet. The lead agency in this investigation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, executed a search warrant on his residence.

Officer-Involved Shooting

A Hemet Police Department Officer was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Sunday, November 20, 2022.Independent investigators from the Riverside County Force Investigation Division, as well as those from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office and the Hemet Police Department, responded to start their investigations. These investigations are just beginning, and the scene is still active as of this release.

On Tuesday, November 23, 2025, at approximately 1:57 a.m., the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call from the 400 block of Steiner Drive regarding a disturbance. Moments later, the caller indicated someone had been shot.  Upon officer’s arrival, they located a crime scene but were unable to locate a shooting victim.

A short time later, two victims with gunshot wounds arrived at Hemet Global Medical Center.  Both sustained critical injuries and were later taken to a nearby trauma center.

HEMET POLICE CONDUCT DUI SAFETY CHECKPOINT

The Hemet Police Department will hold a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, September 15th, 2025, from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am at an undisclosed location within the City of Hemet.

Checkpoint locations are chosen based on DUI crashes and arrests data collection and statistical information. The primary purpose of checkpoints is to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.  During the checkpoint, Officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The safety of our community is and always will be our mission.  Driving under the influence is dangerous and puts a further strain on critical resources.
