Hemet, CA — On Thursday, October 27, at approximately 3:10 am, the Hemet Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call regarding two shooting victims in the 200 block of South Columbia Street. Officers arrived at the location and discovered a deceased adult male with a single gunshot wound and an injured adult female with a single gunshot wound. The adult female was transported to a local hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
The victim of the homicide has been identified as 20-year-old Jason Roy of Hemet. The Hemet Police Department’s Investigations Bureau positively identified the suspect in the case as 21-year-old Roman Mendez of Castro Valley, California. The Riverside County Gang Impact Team surveilled Mendez and arrested him for murder and attempted murder on November 3, 2022, in Castro Valley. Mendez has been booked into Riverside County Jail and is being held on $2 million bail.
The Riverside County Gang Impact Team is supervised by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation and staffed by agents from various local and Federal law enforcement agencies throughout Riverside County.
