Dear Community Members,

As your Chief of Police for the Hemet Police Department, I want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our unwavering support for the rights of freedom of speech and the right to assemble peacefully. These rights are fundamental to our democracy and are entitled to every one of us in this great country. We encourage individuals and groups to express their views and opinions.

However, it is essential that these expressions occur in the safest manner possible. Uncoordinated gatherings can pose significant dangers not only to the protesters but also to the public and to my officers. Activities such as walking into roadways, setting off fireworks, and driving recklessly among crowds can create chaotic and hazardous situations. Such actions are not only dangerous but also against the law.

Our primary priority is to ensure the safety of those who gather to express their views, regardless of the topic. While we are committed to protecting your right to assemble, we will take necessary actions, including making arrests, against those who break the law and put the safety of others at risk.

I strongly encourage any groups planning to hold rallies or events to please contact the Hemet Police Department. By coordinating these activities with us, we can work together to create a safe environment for everyone involved while ensuring that your voices are heard safely.

Please contact us at 951-765-2400, and ask to speak with someone regarding the permitting process and to coordinate your planned events. Together, we can uphold the rights we cherish while ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Arellano

Chief of Police
