Hemet, CA. — On January 22, 2025, members of the Hemet Police Department had the honor of attending Rancho Viejo Middle School’s “BOYZ Summit Leadership Program” event. This exciting initiative, launched by the school’s counselors, was created to support approximately 100 at-promise male students.
Counselor, Ms. Hallberg stated the purpose of this program is to develop leadership skills within the group. “We will focus on organizational/study skills, improving grades, building stronger positive relationships with peers and staff on campus, as well as building community connections to improve the environment outside of campus including a partnership with Hemet PD to promote positive police perceptions and relationships. Our goal is to improve grades, attendance, and self-efficacy rates among our struggling males.”
The BOYZ Summit Leadership event included breakfast, lunch, and keynote speaker, Terrance Stone with Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy, allowing students to come together and celebrate their growth. Students were given a unique opportunity to tour the Hemet Police Department’s Mobile Command Post, gaining firsthand insight into the high-tech resources and operations used during emergency responses and large-scale events. Students also had the opportunity to speak with our crime scene technicians, community service officers, motor officers, SWAT, CBAT, Drone, and K-9 teams.
The Hemet Police Department remains committed to fostering positive community engagement and supporting youth development. The partnership with Rancho Viejo Middle School and the BOYZ Summit Leadership Program is one step in creating lasting and meaningful connections that will benefit both the students and the Hemet community.
