Hemet, CA – On Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 1350 hours, the Hemet Police Department responded to a traffic collision on the Rancho Viejo Middle School’s campus located at 985 North Cawston Avenue in Hemet. The caller stated a male was seen entering school grounds. HUSD security and school staff quickly detained the subject after he jumped a fence onto Rancho Viejo Middle School grounds.
The preliminary investigation revealed the 53-year-old driver crashed into a fire hydrant and brick wall in the 900 block of North Cawston Avenue. The driver continued northbound on Cawston Avenue and collided into two additional fences at Rancho Viejo Middle School. The driver got out of the vehicle and jumped a fence onto school grounds where he was immediately detained. During the apprehension a weapon was found on his person. No students, staff or officers were injured during the incident and the campus was secured. This is an active investigation and charges are pending.
